Does your PC need a speed boost or are you running out of space for all that music and pictures?
PCs get out of date very quickly and there is a law called Moore’s Law which is often used to describe the pace of change in Technology, and the theory is that the power and capacity of IT doubles every 2 years.
Well things have often been seen to move on quicker than that, and the speed and capacity of the PC or Laptop you bought 2 years ago is likely to be half of the speed and capacity of the PC or Laptop you could buy for the same money today.
But in addition the amount of power and memory that things like software, such as Windows, needs to function also increases at a similar rate, and the pictures that you took with your 1 megapixel camera or camera phone 2 years ago took up less than half the space that your 6 megapixel camera or camera phone takes up today.
So there will come a time when you need to consider upgrading, it’s a bit like considering the extra space you need in your house, maybe when that 2nd child comes along. Do you go all out and move to a bigger house or would it be cheaper and preferable to stick with the house you know and love and build an extension.
Well the same applies to your PC or Laptop. Do you want to splash out on a new one or just go for the short term solution of an upgrade?
The answer will really depend on what you are looking to do, and the old adage of “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” applies to IT too. If it does what you want it to do why not just stick with it. And it may be you just need a little more capacity to store that music or those photos, or maybe the PC just needs a bit more memory to speed things up, or a better graphics card to run that new game you have installed, in which case we can provide you with the right solution for your needs.
If however you decide it is time to move on or move up we can provide you with advice on the next addition to your technology portfolio!
